Little Havana

March 29, 2014

Little Havana in Miami, home to many Cubans, with its center of SW 8th Street, Calle Ocho.
Calle Ocho is a wonderful quaint street with Cuban cigar shops, mom and pop stores, art galleries and excellent Cuban food. On weekend nights, the street gets an extra kick with lots of music and dancing. Especially the last friday of the month when Viernes Culturales (Cultural Fridays) is celebrated.

    The Miami River

    March 15, 2014

The Miami river is a special river that runs in the heart of the city of Miami. It flows right through downtown Miami into Biscayne Bay. It is a working river with substantial cargo ships traffic, marine industry businesses as well as fishing boats. Along the river there are charming bridges and wonderful parks and there is and interesting mix of old and new. Modern hi rise residential buildings with old and quaint single family homes. Mega yachts as well as tiny fishing boats. There is a big push in recent years to develop the river and its surroundings and it definitely shows. Come and check it out!

    The Pelican

    Pelican

These huge and gentle seabirds hang out on the waterways of South Florida. Their size is impressive together with their agility that is seen when they dive to catch their fish or when they take flight.

    February weekend in Miami Beach

    February 24, 2014

February weekend day in Miami Beach. Totally blue skies and plenty of sun with pleasant temperatures of about 80. It’s definitely time to head out to a park by the water and just enjoy the beauty of life.
One of my favorite spots is South Pointe Park at the southern tip of Miami Beach. A wonderful park with grassy areas, shades, play areas, walking promenade and even some small hills (a rarity in Miami). All these are situated along the waters, right where the bay and the Atlantic ocean meet. Boats play in the waters and cruise ships are passing close-by as they leave the port of Miami and head out to sea. People are out at the beach, relaxing on the grass, playing with kites and balls, riding their bikes or just hanging out by the water with drinks in their hands. Cheers!

    Green Cay

    January 26, 2014

The beautiful weather with cooler temperatures and birding season keep drawing me back to the wetlands, the wonderful nature preserves, that I discovered this year, right here in South Florida. This was my first visit to Green Cay with its long and winding boardwalk, variety of interesting and colorful wildlife and special flora too.

Classic cars at Art Deco Weekend

    January 20, 2014

Classic cars exhibit on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach as part of Art Deco weekend. It is the celebration of the glorious era of Miami Beach and its Art Deco architecture. The classic cars drew me to photograph their curvy shapes, unusual parts and shimmering looks.

    The Everglades

    January 5, 2014

    The wonderful Florida Everglades!
These are the largest subtropical wilderness in the U.S. spreading over 1.5 million acres. Consist mainly of wetlands with saw grass marshes and mangroves. Filled with a large variety of wildlife from birds to crocodiles.
How lucky we are in South Florida to have this treasure right in our backyard.
These photos were taken on a winter day outing from Miami at “Shark Valley”.
